Pierre started out as an actor graduating from the Playhouse Acting School in Vancouver under the direction of the late great Powys Thomas. He worked in theatres across the country from Vancouver to Montreal and many places in between. Pierre began his directing career with the Kytes Troupe in Toronto, a dynamic company that featured the original work of youth from diverse backgrounds and its directors (Tétrault and Katherine Marielle) that toured to prisons and drop in centres. He studied artistic direction at Toronto Workshop Productions before being appointed as Artistic Director of Carousel Players St. Catharines, and then Young Peoples Theatre in Toronto (now Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People). His artistic seasons won Dora and Chalmers awards for best new productions and his own direction on new shows has resulted in many additional nominations for Doras as best new productions ( Emperor’s New Clothes, 1000 Cranes, The Nightingale, Mella Mella, the Prince and the Pauper, Ghost Train). He left the theatre for seven years to develop as a director of film and documentary recently writing and directing the award winning film This Beggar’s Description for the National Film Board, The R Word for OMNI TV and directing the half hour comedy Healing Rani starring Doris Rajan. |
